[color=blue]ho installato mysql 4, ma nn riesco a creare nessun tipo di db(nega l'accesso).

penso che il tuo sia un problema di permessi, hai provato a loggarti come root?

vai su riga di comando e scrivi: mysql -u root

prova cosi'. :)

se sei alle prime armi con queste cose..usa EasyPhp ti installa tutto da solo..Apache, Php, MySql e soprattutto phpMyAdmin dal quale puoi gestire i database e gli utenti attraverso un interfaccia grafica

molto probabilmente è un problema di firewall...devi settare come permesse tt le "comunicazioni" con la porta 3306 per il protocollo TCP/IP...

se ti serve solo per fare prove (quindi non ti interessa niente della sicurezza) prova a creare un account guest nel setup (se lo usi su win, su linux non ci ho mai provato)
